Gumbootie!

As of late I have enquired a small fascination with gumboots. The thought of a both warm and dry foot amidst the hideous weather that Melbourne spits out, unannounced, from time to time has had me searching the web for a solution.


Not too enticed by the shape and length of your standard gumboots or the attraction that you are working on a farm but not really because your traipsing the streets of Melbourne led me to avoid said gumboot styles made popular by  Hunter, Wellies, Walnut etc, and instead lean towards these cute alternatives!

Gumboot like in nature, bootie like in style. These plastic wonders are short-legged-people-friendly and don't attract the same look of insanity to be wearing gumboots out on the street when you are not in fact exerting your finest festival chic look at Glastonbury or raking up cow pies down at the farm.

Supreme comfort

I am a big believer in comfort dressing. I am not afraid to wear tracksuits down the street and I slop around in my Uggs as soon as I arrive home from work. Here are a few of my favourite new season staples to make your nights off even better!

Also, if you play it right, you can work trackies into an everyday ensemble. Heres how:

First of all, choose your footwear carefully, Don't go for thongs of Uggs to wear out, choose either a heel or a high boot to make it dressier and to elongate your legs, which is important as tracksuits tend to shorten the appearance of your legs. 

Mix and match your textures, a leather jacket is a good place to start, pile on a bright scarf, a colourful necklace and voila! The most comfortable outfit that I would love to wear.

Finding that perfect pair of jeans can seem an impossible task, especially if you factor in tailoring issues, the rise, stretch content, colours, the size of your thighs and your height, it seems that most everything can be against you. Although, if you go in with a game plan and willingness to try on millions of different brands and styles, you CAN come out on top with a great pair of jeans!

These are my personal picks from General Pants, but another fantastic place to find denim is David Jones as they stock an extensive array of denim such as J Brand, Nobody, Levis, and Nudie. However we are not just on the search for denim but for the perfect BLUE jeans.

I've featured a variety of jeans including different blue hues, rises, brands and price points. My personal favourite denim brand here however, is Nudie. I may have some bias based on having worked with Nudie jeans for some time in my previous job, and having owned a pair, but they are all beautiful organic italian denim with great stretch retention. The weight of the denim is much denser than most other brands which is great when looking for a tighter fit that will go the distance.

For most people, denim builds up the base of their wardrobe, a staple to which you build an outfit. Here are my outfit suggestions for Autumn to best compliment your blue jeans:

So when searching for denim, remember this:
1.  Firstly look at how much your willing to spend, accept that great denim will not be manufactured in China and cost less than $100. Be willing to drop some cash on a pair of jeans as they will become a staple in your wardrobe and if you treat them right, should last you for years to come.


2. When looking for denim with a sretch content avoid jeans that are so stretchy that they act like leggings do, as these will be perfect only for a short amount of time.


3. Focus your attention on the rise, mid rise denim suits almost everyone and helps suck in and hide problem areas such as the muffin. 


4. Another tip I would suggest for girls a little bigger in the thighs, is that when shopping for blue denim, avoid contrast stitching and extensive faded areas, try and go for a blue that is darker and consistent in colour from top to bottom to create the illusion of slimmer thighs and longer legs.


5. The weight. Especially going into winter, go for a denim with a heavier weight so that it will keep you warm and last longer. Lighter denim should be approached closer to spring/summer.


6. Lastly but not least, choose a leg that flatters you shape. Don't go for a super skinny if you are really top heavy as it will create an out of proportion upside-down triangle effect. Not everybody suits super skinny, or bootcut, or bell, so be prepared to try different leg shapes and see what works for you.

new season boots.

I am often faced with the confrontation of having no clothing or footwear when a change of season rolls in. It gets cold and you wonder what the hell it was that you wore last year. If this happens to any other woman out there, holla at me! 

This post is about boots. The winter necessity that is THE BOOT. Last year I wore big black lace up motorcycle-esque boots that were PU and now in all honesty, broken and out of date. They weren't Doc Martins, they were from Target, they did however serve me pretty well. 

This year however, I am interested in investing in a more classic boot. Below are examples of the new modern classic boot. Aussie retailers are only a few years late with their imitation of these hugely popular boots but nonetheless, here are three boots that you could have forever!

If like me, your ass tightens up at the idea of paying this much for shoes, fear not. Retailers have taken on a lot of inspiration from these new classics and there is a great selection to be found that are both of genuine materials and original designs. I have scoured the web to find some great affordable leather boots that you can buy and that will see you through the season and into the next years. However, production will not come from Italy or France, but somewhere closer to home, South East Asia. (Tried to make that sound good didn't I) Here's my selection:

P.s Don't be a sucker and pay more than $100 for PU shoes. I personally feel that pricing footwear that highly based on man made materials just places emphasis on the designers lack of awareness of consumer expectations.

This will be Leandra Medine aka The Man Repeller aka Fashion commentary hero's second collaboration with the talented duo that is Dannijo. (Insert short summary of companies history here.)
